1.Possible ban on vapes in UK
-What were your research sources for each of the three stories you covered?
For this op-ed we used sources such as 'The Guardian', 'LRT', Nigel Farage on 'TikTok' and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
For this op-ed we used secondary and primary research as well as qualitative data. For secondary and qualitative data, 'The Guardian', 'LRT', and 'Centers for Disease Control and Prevention' are reliable sources as they are well known, professional news informants. TikTok is not necessarily a reliable source unless sources are used in the video to back up the point, there are no sources in this video as it was Nigel Farage's opinion. Therefore, our source is his word. For primary research we took it upon ourselves to ask the young people in our college their opinion on the possible ban of vapes in the UK, we then proceeded to quote them in our op-ed.
-What audience were you aiming each of these pieces at? How did you ensure that your content appealed to them?
This op-ed was simply aimed at anyone who supports the ban of disposable vapes in the UK. We understood that this was a wide range of people. To reach everyone we quoted young people (16-19) in our college after asking their opinion on the possible ban on vapes in the UK, as well as quoting Nigel Farage who is influential to more mature individuals.
-Why did you choose these topics? What is their relevance?
This possible ban claims to be having young people in mind, saying it's to help the younger generations. We thought that this was an issue we ought to touch on being part of the younger generation ourselves. We are also surrounded by people who smoke disposable vapes daily, and we are also not opposed to the odd vape.
-How did you decide on which media form to use for each piece?
We chose to write an op-ed for this project. An op-ed seemed the most appropriate as we feel very strongly about this issue and desperately want people to see our point of view.
2.20mph speed limits in wales
-What were your research sources for each of the three stories you covered?
For this TikTok used the 'Welsh Government' website and 'Wales Online' for our sources.
We used secondary, quantitative and qualitative data. The 'Welsh Government' website along with 'Wales Online' are trusted sources as the Government is trustworthy and factual, and 'Wales Online' is a factual new agency. 'Wales Online' uses sources from the Welsh Government showing their claims to indeed be facts.
-What audience were you aiming each of these pieces at? How did you ensure that your content appealed to them?
For this TikTok we were aiming to reach people outside of Wales who perhaps didn't know about the new 20mph speed limit, we were also aiming to reach a younger audience hence the use of TikTok. We ensured our content appealed to younger people by keeping the TikTok as short as we could, while still including the vital information and also including pictures to keep individuals engrossed.
-Why did you choose these topics? What is their relevance?
We chose this topic as many young people in England didn't seem to know what was happing to a part of the UK, we felt the need to inform these individuals of such information. This is relevant to us as we are young people who are learning how to drive and we found this new law preposterous, it's also closer to home than some may think. Nottingham have just introduced the same 20mph speed limit around the city. So how long will it be before it is enforced elsewhere?
-How did you decide on which media form to use for each piece?
We chose TikTok as we were looking to inform younger individuals, and TikTok is the platform w understand to be most common amongst young people. We ourselves use it everyday and so does every other young person we know. It's very easy to get picked up by the algorithm by using certain hashtags to our reach would be larger than if we used any other form of social media.
3.Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
-What were your research sources for each of the three stories you covered?
For this podcast we used 'The New York Post', 'RTE' and Twitter as our sources.
We used qualitative and secondary research for this podcast. 'The New York Post' is a reliable source as it's a trusted news outlet but it's also an opinion piece from the writer so the words we are quoting are without a doubt what this person thinks. 'RTE' is a reliable source as it's an interview conducted with Taylor Swift making it factual and Twitter is not the most reliable source but we've used a tweet directly from Taylor Swift making it highly trustworthy.
