B2: FMP - Experimentation

Video Editing:
1.The first think I did was import all of my clips into Adobe Premier. This is software I have only used once before so editing this segment is essentially an experiment in itself.

2.This picture shows the clips cut up into each of the six individuals segment, the next step is to order them.

3.This shows the clips all ordered. I chose to put them in the order of girl, boy, girl, boy, girl, boy. This allows me to keep engagement with the girls typically having one answer, and the boys another.

4.This picture shows my experimentation with the blur effect. I took inspiration from BuzzFeed and decided to put the clips of each of them walking in and out of shot together, I then decided it didn't look quite right so I blurred it. This means the text I would put on later would be easier to read. I feel that it also gives the video a professional feel. This will be placed at the start and end of the video.

5. Next I decided to add my text to my blurred clips at the beginning and end. The text at the start explains the premise of the video, and the text at then end explains the conclusion. This text took me a while as I had to insert each line individually on the start and end of the video because I decided to have the text slide in to create a typing effect. I watched a YouTube video on how to do it and then went from there. I wanted to create a typing effect as I thought it looked more professional but also better than the text just being sat on the screen.

6. I decided to then add everyone's social media handles along with their name. I chose to do this as it introduces who they are to the viewer in a professional manor. I chose to have the social media handle prioritised over the persons name as it targets gen-z.

7.Whilst editing I decided to put everyone's answers in blocks with one clip at the start of me asking the question. So, the next thing I did was add text to every clip where I asked the question. This is so the viewer can clearly tell what I am asking. I also took inspiration from BuzzFeed as when they do similar videos, you can only just hear the person in the back but can clearly see the text on the video.
8. The next thing I did was create the intro and outro. The first thing I did to create the intro was create the text on Canva. I found a template that fit the aesthetic of my video and I then saved it to the computer. The next step was to search through intro templates on the Adobe software. I decided to go with a retro computer pop up as it fit the aesthetic and created a nice transition into the video. To create the outro I once again searched through the Adobe templates, I decided on the classic youtube outro as this is where the video is being uploaded; by putting on the classic youtube end screen it allows me to showcase my other videos. I do this by selecting them once I'm uploading it to youtube, so for now it stays as a blank canvas.

9. Next was the intro music. For this I first downloaded royalty free music offline that was purposely made short and snappy for this use. I selected something that I thought fit the theme of he video. I then decided as something extra that I would include a keyboard click sound; this is because when the intro starts the block you can see in the picture below expands and looks like an old fashioned computer notification screen. I thought a keyboard click would sound ideal. Up next after the intro slide we have a second intro that explains the video so it's a screen with text. I edited this text to look like it was being typed so for aesthetic and matching the theme of the intro I decided to put a typing sound effect over that clip. After that is the outro, for this I did the exact same as for the first intro clip and the second intro clip as i wanted everything to match for aesthetic purposes.

10. The next step was watching through the video to check everything was correct, then joining all of the segments together and exporting the finished product to my computer. This step was fairly simple and only took a few seconds.

11. The final stage was uploading the finished product to YouTube. This was a fairly simple process, the most difficult bit was including my previous work on the outro as I previously mentioned. I had to get them perfectly lined up, other than that this ran smoothly.

My reflection:
Throughout my video editing I explored different options for my video such as different intro/outro's, different sound effects, different fonts, different transitions for the text, etc. The ones I decided on, I purely chose because they look more professional and compliment each other by matching the aesthetic of each other. I feel that the options I chose add strength to the video when all put together. it's a video that people want to watch for aesthetics alone. Whilst editing I have learnt that aesthetics are very important, without them the video falls apart because it's not pleasant to look at so no one will watch. I will take this on board with me throughout other projects.

Article Editing:

1.Once I had finished writing my article I decided to copy and paste it from Wix into Microsoft Word to allow me to change the text font, colour etc. as Wix doesn't have those options. The first thing I did was add a picture to the article. I feel this picture suited the vibe of my article as it is a picture of a fan girl at a concert, the bow also signifies the innocence of fan girls. I felt that meaning was important as fan girls are typically young girls trying to go about their day yet have boys and men constantly shining abuse in their direction. You can see that I have also changed the by line to pink, This was because it suits the theme of the article but also the overall theme of my blog.

2. I then decided to change the font of my article. I feel that this font makes it an easier read for the eye but also I chose this text as it reminds me of a type writer or text you'd find on blogs in the early 2000's. This was important to me as I wanted this piece to feel personal, like you were reading it directly from my blog. Misogyny in fan culture is an issue close to my heart and I want people to truly understand the language they use towards fan girls is wrong. By giving it a more personal touch the person reading will not view it as an article written for a news organisation but an article written by a person with feelings and an experience receiving such hate.

3. I decided to experiment with other photos for my article, photos with a different meaning but just as important. The first picture demonstrates the anger of women with regards to misogyny in fan culture; the second picture demonstrates a girl at a concert having fun, as we should be able to without having misogynistic comments made towards us. However, I felt that none of these fit the theme of my article, which also had to align with the theme of my video. I had a set vision in mind but nothing that was free to use online was proving to be any good.

4. I then decided to take this into my own hands and bring my vision to life. I decided to book a photoshoot with help from photography students at my college and a few friends in my class. I feel that this worked in my favor, as this is exactly what I wanted to find online but couldn't. These pictures perfectly encapsulate the nature between fan girls and fan boys. The fan girl minding her business and simply existing, with the men snarling at her and having to get involved in her business.

My Reflection:
Throughout this process of editing my article I've explored many different options, all to do with aesthetics because if it doesn't look nice people are less likely to read it. My main issues were focusing on the fonts and pictures. I first changed the font several times but realised that it didn't look nice so I ended up changing it back to the original font as it made for a nicer read. The pictures were an absolute nightmare. Pictures have to portray exactly what the article is about because people say don't judge a book by its cover, but everyone does. None of the pictures were working which resulted in me taking the photos myself. I have learnt from this process that sometimes you need to take things in to your own hand in order for it to meet your exact vision.
