Hook-up culture and its consequences

For this project I decided to work with Martyna and Delfina. Unfortunately, I was not present for the idea development or the development and presentation of the pitch. However, I was being sent constant messages from my group to keep me in the loop of what decisions they were making. For example, this is how we decided we would be conducting a podcast as well as an article, that Martyna and Delfina would edit the podcast and that I would write the article, etc. Fortunately I was present for the development of all other aspets of this project. We decided on inviting Barbara Dunleavy from Relate Nottingham to speak on our podcast. We chose Relate Nottingham as their website claims that, 'Our services include relationship counselling for individuals and couples, family counselling, counselling for children and young people and sex therapy. We can help you if you're single or in a relationship, straight or gay, young or old. Whatever your circumstances we're dedicated to helping you get the most out of your relationships, no matter how big or small the issue.' Barbara was quick to reply to Martyna's email, more than happy to participate in our podcast. The development of the podcast went quite smoothly, we all did an equal amount of research and decided on the most valuable questions and information to mention throughout the podcast. We used an equal amount of qualitative and quantitative data as shown in our talking points throughout my research development. However, we used only secondary research as we thought this was better for the time we had throughout the project. The article however, was not discussed as a group. The article was left for me to conduct in my own way. When writing the article I first made sure to transcribe the podcast in order to get precise quotes from Barbara. Similar to the podcast I used only secondary research as I thought it was suitable for the limited time I had to write it. Throughout the project I learnt no new skills, the skills used were the same skills I developed during my first few weeks of this term. I maintained my skills in time management, teamwork, and writing.

Is cinema dying?

For this project I decided to write an op-ed on 'Is cinema dying?'. I chose this topic because I'm incredibly passionate about it; writing an op-ed allows me to showcase opinion compared to your standard article that does not choose a side but will only provide equal facts and evidence for both sides. Once this was decided I started on my research. I used qualitative, quantitative, and secondary research. I found that qualitative and quantitative research were both necessary when conducting if cinema was or was not dying, I found a lot of articles to quote and statistics that I could reference throughout my secondary research. I found that secondary research would be best fitting with this project due to the quick turn around. My sources were reliable using websites such as 'The Guardian', 'Gov.uk' or 'Stastista', all of them up to date, accurate, and backed up with evidence. I had tried to contact 'professional' people such as university professors or local cinemas who would know what they were talking about in regards to my topic, to see if they'd be willing to answer a few questions for my op-ed but no one replied. I ended up contacting 7 people, because of the quick turnaround of the project I was forced to not have any 'professional' opinions on this op-ed. Once I had conducted enough research to back up my opinion I went ahead and wrote the op-ed. Once the op-ed had been written I made sure to upload it to my website then go on to also upload evidence to my various social media platforms. I felt that throughout this project I was able to further my knowledge of using trusted sources and using my social media platforms.
